Desensitization of pakistani society..myth or reality

By Javed Akram • Jun 2nd, 2009 • Category: Politics • 2 Comments

Nowadays, the media is all about the news .every hour and every 15 minutes viewers are flooded with breaking news even though the news may not be that important.Several of our leading news channels….in their competitive zeal..bombard users with little tidbits of news….whether tragic or happy. This has both positive and negative effects. With the unregulated media environment(yes I would say its unregulated)the viewers are being overdosed with unethical advertisement practices and yellow journalism.

There is a lot of violence going on in our country but our media behaves irresponsibly and potentates that violence. The people have been bombarded with scenes of dead and destroyed property consistently…so much that I feel not only we have become desensitized but but our health is being affected. It is common knowledge when body is exposed to stress it tries to adapt..in this case the violence seen on tv has numbed our brains but not our body.As a result patient with psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and other disordered has increased.

This is not to say that their is no violence but the reports should be given to people in a more orderly way and most importantly this breaking news reel you see on the bottom of screen should be avoided.I personally get a heart attack every time i see breaking and later finding out it was only one politician meeting another. Instead of improving morale of our people the media decreases the morale by showing the effectiveness of people who challenge the writ of state. One of the most popular tv anchors was saying on one of his programs that Taliban are not happy because they have not received media coverage and they are accusing media of bias. What the hell….those guys are challenging the writ of the state and these tv hosts by saying this gives legitimacy to the claims of those mongrel.

I mean hasn’t he got enough money and good rating. Why would he want to confuse people of our country. Its not him only but many other people are adopting the same tactics.By statement s like this the media ends up confusing and desensitization of the Pakistani populace.

  1. Javed,

That is the case all over the world. Nothing new in it.

The regulation to control these channels needs to be in place and should be brought by concerned governments.

  2. who cares any more…. prepare for world war III
