The democracy has taken its revenge but it is the time for the new leadership of the country to convince opponents of democracy in the country that the peoples’ government (democracy) is the only solution to steer the country out of crises. President Zardari talks a lot about democracy, and one should believe him when he shows his serious intents to usher a new and solid dawn of democracy in Pakistan.

He has been flawed and has faltered a lot after the 18th February, but one should remember that he has never been a national level politician and just accidentally became the president, when his wife, the two time Prime Minister of Pakistan, late Benazir Bhutto was ruthlessly assassinated in Rawalpindi last year, when she was returning after addressing an election rally, and from that time on Zardari has proved himself of capable for absorbing pressure and from steering the ship of his party and now he is all set to navigate the country through these troubling and testing times.

Asif Ali Zardari is spot on when he says that the forces of dictatorship and status quo are on the prowl to create fissures in the democracy and to once again push the country back to the times of tyranny. Forces of status quo who have been pushed back through the angry tsunami after the slaying of Benazir Bhutto are now once again trying to get a foothold, but only the unity of political forces could block their way.

The recent barrage of attack against the personality of Asif Ali Zardari is just to create more gloom and despair in the country and to destabilize the new government. Pakistani people have already paid a huge price for their hard gained democratic government and they will fight viciously if anyone would try to topple the will of the people.
