Cold War Exposed between PPP and PML-N

The appointment of Salman Taseer as the governor Punjab in place of the Khalid Maqbool has been rejected and severely criticized by the PML-N, and they have asked tough questions from their coalition partner PPP.

Salman Taseer has got the Pakistan People’s Party background, and though his appointment has been made from the President House, but its clear that he has been appointed on the recommendations of PPP.

This means that PPP doesn’t want to give free hand to the PML-N, and the battle has started. PPP had made it clear to the camp office, that they were not ready to work with the remains of PML-Q and they would like to have their own man in the governor house, and now things will get really interesting.

Salman Taseer is a close friend of President Musharraf and of Asif Ali Zardari, and with a media background Salman has also been served as a caretaker minister.  Salman Taseer is likely to see that PPP gets the required numbers in the Punjab Assembly and to protect the interests of PPP in this province.

Since the Muslim League (Nawaz Group) and its politicians have appointed themselves the champions of “Rule of Law” then one can certainly expect them to be well versed in the constitution; is it not true that the constitution gives the President, through the 17Th. Constitutional Amendment, the discretionary power to appoint provincial Governors. The President of Pakistan is under no obligation to consult PML-Nawaz League (or seek their approval) before appointing Governors, including Governor of Punjab.
