Caravans of Thundering Lawyers Converging
By Ali Yar Khan • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 75 CommentsGallant lawyers from all over the Pakistan have started their Long March towards the Islamabad where a dictator lives who tried to demolish the country’s justice system to appease his vested interest to stick to the power forever. These lawyers are upholding the flags of supremacy of law and the upper hand of constitution with full liberty to the judges of higher and lower judiciary.
15 months ago, the movement was started by the lawyers when their leader Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary, the deposed chief justice of Pakistan said ‘No’ to the dictator, and dictator in his blinding power tried to abrade the justice, but failed miserably, and the hapless nation lifted their justice on their eye lashes and now every nook and corner of the country is resounding with the slogans of Justice.
Lawyers throughout their movement remained peaceful, though during the Draconian rule of Musharraf, they were beaten, dragged, tortured, arrested and detained by the plain cloth security people and the police. These lawyers were treated with batons and tear gases and the abuse of third degree policemen. Students, civil society and the silent majority of the people of Pakistan fully rallied behind these lawyers and they were the biggest catalyst which enabled the dissolution of the Musharraf’s PML-Q era.
But when the so-called democratic leaders came in the parliament riding on the shoulders of the lawyers movement, half of them changed the color, and started their wicked delaying tactics. Pakistan People’s Party first disappointed by not restoring the judges just after government formation, and then they did it again when they backtracked from their promise of Bhurban Declaration, and then they violated yet another dead line for the reinstatement of the judges, and now they want to implement Minus One Formula through the so-called constitutional package.
Throughout this period, the lawyers have remained in great peace and they have tolerated all the chicanery with passions, and now when it is crystal clear that the government of PPP is not going to reinstate the judges by any means according to the promise and the will of the people, the lawyers have called for the Long March towards the parliament house. This Long March is peaceful. This isn’t some form of violent agitation, rather it’s a show of power for the forces of status quo, who are reluctant to give way to the change.
The caravans of change have set off towards Islamabad from all the four provinces.
The lawyers’ slogan for the march is: “We are out to save the country: come join us.”

Chief Teray Jaan Nisar, Bay shumar Bay shumar
Long March is the last hope for the poor of this country.
I wish that everything remains peaceful and Musharraf himself resigns before lawyers storm Islamabad.
Mera sub kuch qurban, insaf kay rukhwaloon per. Welcome Welcome Wukla Welcome.
Zardari could end the lawyers movement through one flash of his charming smile. So dont worry, be happy.
Dr. Samreen Bano Says: June 10th, 2008 “I wish that everything remains peaceful and Musharraf himself resigns before lawyers storm Islamabad.”
Are they lawyers or TERRORISTS?
Shabaz
This is not last but first try of retreating the ruling mafia. We have no other choice left except to go for street demonstration. Those who are against this march must know that this march is unique in these ways.
-no foriegn hand involvement is being seen in mass rallies.
-After Bhuttos movement in late 1960, first time middle and literate class is gathering against one man show.
-Army and US mafia is astonished of such public awakening and that is the only reason they are not letting Shaukat aziz to show his face again to nation as he is actual man who started this mess of judicial issue .
If the lawyers are prooved terroists in the rein of muharaf ,surely they would had been sold to US so if musharaf couldnt proof this charge by using all state machinery ,then no body could label them by this name.Lets think to give them suitable name for their sacrifices and street protest against a powerful military dictator.
Nazia, “Lets think to give them suitable name for their sacrifices and street protest against a powerful military dictator.”
Hmmm. Lets see. How about naming them - ANARCHISTS? or AGITATORS? may be POPULISTS?
Dear All,
I bear repeating it here that there is a corruption and misappropriation case filed against the Chief Justice of our country which is a maculated stigma and a blemish on the personal character. Chief Justice is symbol of piety and guarantor of absolute justice in any nation. This is a serious matter. If this chief justice is a real man of a stature; the philanthropy invested in such a high post demands that he should have acted on his own cognizance as a ‘Suo Motu’ and considered himself resigned by himself, till he was able to clear himself of charged allegations.
All else are merely the tales that under the present circumstances, he stands resigned and whether he should be reinstated or not (being later dismissed by the President). He should clear himself of alleged charges and judicial Council should show the people his clean slate before this that he is even considered for reinstatement. The dead dog from the polluted well must be taken out first.
Court business is conducted in Courts only. Staging of a protest or arranging a Long March on any pretext by a bunch of lawyers out side of the courts, in order to pressurize and influence the Parliament to give a favourable verdict is sure absurdity because; {Munsib ka Mut-manni khain hota hey!} If at all there is a need to do some March; that is an inward ‘cleansing March’; a March toward lower and High courts system; where Justice is a far cry and common man experiences; corruption, corruption and corruption of Judges only.
A Khokar, you couldn’t say it any better. Absolutely right, but for such honourable acts one must be endowed with honour and humility. What we are witnessing is an attempt to completely destroy whatever trust and faith there is through this politics of disruption and disturbance of the law and order.
I say lets just leave the “dead dog” in that “polluted well” and fill it up for ever.
You are right the common man in Pakistan has been more grieved by the conduct of lawyers rather than courts
I wonder what these STUPID lawyers (who had already harmed country’s economy and their stupid movement has been the main reason behind last years’s poor economic performance… see today’s economic survey of Pakistan ) will do after the disasterous failure of this long march.
The news about their long march are very disappointing and very few people are participating in their so called marches originating from different cities. See today’s BBC report.
These STUPIDS have destroyed the socio-political environment of the country as well.
STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID
Ready to burn Pakistan in the hatred of one man.
Kash! There struggle was about the change of judicial system in Pakistan which is the most corrupt in the world and takes years to decide about thefts even.
STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID
I think the biggest problem with Pakistan politics is the tradition of either loving or hating personalities instead of higher institutions. The office of presidency is much bigger then Musharraf and the position of Cheif justice is much bigger then Chaudhry Iftekhar. Alongs with his faults, Musharraf has done a lot of good for Pakistan. Although Chaudhry Iftekhar was right to reject Musharraf in March, he also took oath via PCO and accepted Musharraf as president for most of his tenure and should be called out on that.
I am not a fan of either one, but I think those behind these extreme actions are taking advantage of uneducated, poor Pakistanis and only have self interest on their minds. All of these issues combined are nowhere as important as food, water, electricity, and safety for common citizens, but those are too difficult for the politicians to tackle and there is no profit in them.
The fact that Zardari and Nawaz Sharif are on the list of 5 richest Pakistanis speaks for itself…hmm, maybe I should go back to Pakistan for run for office!

We are not biased, Pakistan First is moto of the nation, before Musharraf Government it was not possible to attack Pakistani Territory, just think for a moment why Bush is backing Mush because Mush is Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan army they don’t want a person replacing Mushi who take these acts of voilations to parliaments to get them vetted through it, in the case Musharraf should leave for the solidarity, integrity, and safety of Pakistan and Pakistanis.
All the nation supports Pakistan Army in this time, but who deployed them? Who before media says we shall operate inside Pakistan and never agitated on such attacks? Time to think Doc.
