Best Way to Stop Recruitment for Taliban in Pakistan

By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Dec 15th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 5 Comments

Broadly speaking, t here are two prime motives as why people in Pakistan are joining the ranks of Taliban terrorists. First and foremost is the social injustice and the second one is the Lal Masjid Operation in Islamabad.

In Pakistan, an intense rage is found against the privileged people throughout the country. These elite class is a supreme example of apathy and indifference and their callous behaviour against the overwhelming majority of Pakistanis has provided an ideal breeding ground for the violent retaliation. Taliban thrive on their peaseant army. They not only promise these people better life with money not only in this world but also in the next world, they also provide a unique chance to these poor people to have a go at the rich.

Another very persuasive way for Taliban to hire the people is to flaunt the images and videos of Lal Masjid operation. Taliban show gruesome images of burned corpses of  burqa clad women to the people and tell people that it was done by Pakistani forces upon the orders of America. That compels some people to do suicide attacks on the army personnel even in the mosques.

Pakistan army and Pakistani government could ask for an public apology from the people over the Lal Masjid operation and bring in former dictator Musharraf to the trial to counter the exploitation of Lal Masjid issue by the terrorists. Secondly, the world must come forward to help Pakistani government to eliminate the social injustice as much as possible.

That is the only way to defeat the terrorism.

  1. I agree with cause of terrorism, which is the widening gap between rich and poor. This can be fixed through equal economic oppurtunitie, land reforms, and etc.

Asking for an apology means the victory for extremists. That should never be allowed. Would Taliban ask for an apology of doing terrorism? The only way to stop terrorism is to defeat these extremists militarily, even if this war takes 100 years.

  2. If the people of pakistan think like the way you have illustrated then its sad because the number of mosque attacked by the taliban are countless.

  3. The people who were died of Peshawar market blasts or lahore moon market blasts have no way linked with such motives for which bombers were prepared in hide out of terrorists.
Oh sure Prade land incident has first time made our army men to feel like that and that is why author first time come out with the statements that is highlighting the deadly mistakes of army while ruling and misusing its public against wrong concept of jihad with in state.
Now you really are thinking like retired army men whom wisdom activated near retirement days.

  4. Very right but who shall do all this?

  5. What didn’t change with the government was our complacency in drone strikes. If current government don’t have any power to change the policies of Musharraf government then it is good for nothing. If Pakistan can launch full blooded operations in Swat and SW then why can’t Pakistan carry out drone missions. It is beyond my comprehension. Not only should these be stopped along with an apology for Lal Masjid operation but those who had a member of family innocently killed in drone attacks should be compensated and apologized to as well.Suicide attacks in Pakistan started with current frequency after 80 students of a madrassa were killed in drone attack in Bajur if memory serves well.
We have to decouple our war from USA’s war, period.
