Are we digging the well again? Pakistan Election 2008

By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Feb 17th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics • One Response •

8th general elections are going to happen tomorrow in Pakistan. Since our independence in 1947 from the British colonial rule, elections have been arranged in the fatherland, but there was no continuity in them, though nation took part in every election with fervour.

Elections were manipulated every time. Political cells of agencies affected the polling, political intrigues, and results. Nation even then stuck to the dream of having their elected members into the assemblies. But always the approach of authorities remained that nation’s responsibility is to cast its vote, and it shouldnt bother with who forms the government.

The thing is that even more than sixty years have been passed but still we are in the quest of a democracy. Still we are struggling to find a leader, who could make us respectable in the cluster of nations. We are frustrated and we are desperate. Majority of the Pakistanis see these polls as the way to resolve the gaping issues.

So tomorrow it’s not a normal day. A common Pakistani would try to alter his destiny. You would be amazed as how the anger is seething in the populace against the previous ruling party. I am not being partisan, but with all honesty, whom ever I talk, people just want change, and I am stunned at some people’s aggressive response. They want to avenge their suffering tomorrow.

So at last, this time we are not digging the well again, we have learnt something from the blunders and our turbulent history. You will see that passion sweeping the polls tomorrow.
