Are We Afraid or Confused?

It’s not to sprinkle salt on the wounds of the internally displaced people of Swat and the FATA, but it’s  a fact that these people are somewhat responsible of what they are reaping these days. Had they stood up to the raging Taliban earlier in their areas and had they not adopted collous and cynic posture for Taliban, they would not have been going through such a misery and suffering.

There is a great lesson hidden in this for rest of the Pakistan. We need to act against the terrorism now, or it will take us hostage and then one day, we would be ordered by some forces to vacate our homes and go to where ever we could, as there an operation to be done to root out the aggressors. When Switzerland of the Pakistan can become a deserted graveyard, any area could suffer from it, especially when extremism is at many layers of our society.

Cynicism is the prevailing ethos in our society. We are feeling threat and danger, and yet we believe falsly that it’s for someone else and we would remain basking in the comfort and luxury of our lives. That is what the people of Swat thought and what’s more they were also promised a paradise on earth rich with justice and equality. See what they have got.

Our army is the best and our soldiers are the best too. Our soldiers have fought bravely and many have given the ultimate sacrifice. They deserve our gratitude. But we must understand that this army is not cut out for launching operations and cannot do it forever. We the people of Pakistan also has some onus of our fat shoulders and we must fullfil that responsibility before it’s too late. We must stop blaming others and we must start acting at our own.

Last but not least, We cannot afford to leave our displaced brethren in a lurch at this critical time, we all must work hand in glove to garner maximum support for relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs.

  1. i dont think we are afraid because the worst hasn’t touched us….nor do i think that we are confused because to be confused one has to think first !…..as Nadeem Farooq Paracha put it ‘we are basically a nation of sleepwalkers’…..my compliments for writing on our ’should-be’ national priority # 1.

  2. Confusion describes it.
