ANP Members Exposing Secret Ballots
By Sameer Shaharyar • Sep 9th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments •If you want to see the true embodiment of our politicians at the climax of their idiocy, you must watch the video clips of ANP members of NWFP provincial assemblies in which including the chief minister NWFP Ameer Haider Khan Hoti were caught on the eye of the camera showing off their stamped ballot to the watch guards of the Pakistan People’s Party.
One wonders as how much each of them has earned by just stamping that ballot in the favor of Asif Ali Zardari. Free hand in manipulating the resources in NWFP has already been permitted to the ANP, and promises have also been made to give some lucrative ministeries, chairmanship of senate committees and host of other jobs in the Islamabad. It was a manifestation of the confidence and trust this coalition government enjoys.
It was evident that the ANP members weren’t really voting according to the call of their conscience and their established philosophy, rather they were earning their votes after assuring the agents of pay master. It makes me laugh with pain to recall the words of that hypocrite, Asfund Yar Wali who in Islamabad said that there was very little difference between disrespect and expediency.

They are shameless and lacks ethics of sitting on such high positions. It is a shameful act for whole Pakistan. How a person is called credible, if he is not following professional ethics and code of conduct. It also shows that they damn care about public and do as they like for the greed of lucrative seats and ministries. Most of parties only runs after ministries, and don’t bother to rasie voice for public problems and issues. ANP has same kind of history since long.
Problem is with Pakistanis, who votes them again and again and not closing doors for such culprits and unethical peoples in Politics. We should spread awareness that people differentiate between good and bad, otherwise our country will sunk in few years. Corrupts are becoming PMs and Presidents… Sincere and faithful are loosing even normal jobs in whole society. Really, day by day this corruption is taking control of every company, department and position in country. It is a matter of serious concern but instead of stopping this trend, our society is encouraging it and it is flourishing with high speed. Please play your role and never recommend such practices. Allah is seeing us so keep this in mind.
Show of stamped ballots was just for fun: ANP
PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has accused the electronic media of carrying out camera trick to make news out of a non-issue and to make the “highly transparent” presidential election controversial by showing footages of the NWFP MPAs violating sanctity of the ballot.
Responding to some reports and visuals by the electronic media regarding the violations of rules in the recently-held presidential polls in the NWFP Assembly, ANP Central Information Secretary Zahid Khan said the efforts made by undemocratic forces to knock out the democratically-elected government on technical grounds would not succeed.
The print and electronic media showed clips and photos of some members of the NWFP Assembly, including Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, showing the stamped ballot papers to the polling agents before stuffing it in the ballot box.
However, Zahid Khan termed it a deliberate effort by some elements to create doubts about the ìtransparent presidential electionî. Leaders and parliamentarians of the ANP said showing the marked ballot papers during the presidential election was not meant to doubt the loyalty of their colleagues and ruling partners, but a sign of sincerity towards a joint candidate of the ruling alliance and most of the parliamentarians did this for ìfunî.
NWFP Senior Minister and ANP Parliamentary Leader in the NWFP Assembly Bashir Ahmad Bilour said the ANP-PPP coalition government was enjoying absolute majority in the provincial assembly where more than 109 members had pledged their support to Asif Ali Zardari.
“There was no need to suspect the loyalty of our MPAs and supporters as the other presidential candidates had a very thin support in the provincial assembly,” he added. About the showing of their votes to the nominated provincial ministers, the minister said there was no question of violation of the sanctity of votes, but most of the lawmakers took it just for fun to show their ballots to their colleagues.
“We are democratic people and have great respect for the democratic process, and know well the sanctity of the vote,” he added. NWFP Information Minister and ANP former provincial general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain was reluctant to give any comment on the presidential election held in the NWFP Assembly on September 6.
He said the ANP and other parties had felt no shame to vote for Zardari as they had already announced their support to him. “Asif Ali Zardari was nominated by mainstream political parties, which have a majority in the National Assembly and three provincial assemblies,” he said.
However, an ANP MPA said on the condition of anonymity that a number of disgruntled MPAs from the treasury benches had shown their disagreement with the provincial leadership of their respective parties on certain occasions in the past.
“In order to keep a check on the aggrieved members, the treasury members were asked to show their ballots before stuffing the same in the ballot box,” said the MPA. The party’s central information secretary said taking notice of the reports, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan had ordered the party’s provincial organisation to conduct an inquiry.
However, the information collected during the past 24 hours showed that there was no rigging in the election and the polls remained fully transparent, Zahid Khan added. He said all the polling agents as well as the presiding officer, who is the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court, expressed their satisfaction over the transparency of the polling.
