After the Demise of NRO
By Ali Yar Khan • Dec 22nd, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 11 CommentsSo the NRO is no more and the cases against the NRO beneficiaries stand revived. President has got the immunity and the rest of NRO beneficiaries have brushed aside any serious threat and going on with their lives and designations as it were before. Nothing has changed, just a law expired and Supreme Court gave away a verdict which was hailed by many but it’s implementation still a question mark.
After the tragic assassination of two-time Premier of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, Zardari got a lifetime chance to become the chairperson of PPP and then President of Pakistan. He fully utilized the Sindh Card, but nothing was changed for him. He couldn’t get rid of his past corruption charges and he couldn’t really shed away his old companions who remained charged with him during all those previous years. Even still fresh corruption charges are echoing throughout the country and abroad.
If Pakistan People’s Party cannot ged rid of its chairperson, then it is doomed. That’s a grim reality but that’s the way it is. President Zardari cannot make the world forget all those surnames of Mr. 10 Percent and all those corruption stories and the conviction in Swiss Courts and the scandals in UK, Spain, and other countries of the world including the country where he rules. The argument from the government that Zardari remained in the jails for 11 years and yet anothing was proved againt him is an eyewash. Zardari never let the courts have smooth and continuous proceedings. He excused 256 times from appearing in the courts while in jail. Then NRO relieved him and it seems that he is still thankful to the President Musharraf.
Even if the NRO is no more, the charges are still there and that status of the presidency is not going away. Media and the judiciary of Pakistan is not going to overlook those charges and the enornmous wealth of Zardari which allegedly belongs to the people of Pakistan. Mud will keep on slinging over the Zardari regime from past and from present. Only way is the ouster of Zardari and only rescue for the PPP to alter its chairperson.

[...] After the Demise of NRO | The Pakistani Spectator [...]
Hi ali,
That is the difference between a nation like SOUTH AFRICA and PAKISTAN.
Military dictatorships made every party whether PPP, PML(N),PML(Q) or MQM, ANP etc to fall in line by covert ops or by exposing their weakness for wine, women or wealth a universal melody. But Military dictators like Zia,Musharaff Ayub khan etc or Gen Gul are all ANGELS and of virtue as long as they killed palestenians in Jordan or Afghans in Afghanistan or fellow citizens in lal masjid as they were called FREEDOM FIGHTERS and they have no corruption in the ordinary sense of the term unlike civilian politicians.
That is why NELSON MANDELA invented TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION.A NEW SOUTH AFRICA WAS BORN AND IS ONE OF THE BRIC COUNTRIES while Zimbawe is a basket case.
Pakistani citizens must ponder.
No johann
it is not like that.
they all are same kind and their greed revolves around 3Ws, but the game is won by who, attack first on others’ hidden criminal weakness.Army managers give go ahead to only weak political characters which can easily be toppled in one blow.
Why they had run away from judiciary movement and trapped this couple in Dubai villas as they know the crook lawyers couldn’t trapped as they want.Zardari and its team was selection of army for one to one deal in which Musharraf got safe exit and zardari got presidency seat, much above than his expectation that was only made possible by making another Bhutto as late legend.
Now politician should realize that politics is long way and no short term solution can survive under strong military rule. They have to study the efforts of nelson and sui kui of Burma where they both stand on firm political stand for the oppressors group.
Musharraf on Facebook: NRO was a big mistake
December 22, 2009 16:01 IST
CommentFormer pakistan president Pervez Musharraf [ Images ] has described as a “mistake” his decision to promulgate the National Reconciliation Ordinance, a graft amnesty that was recently struck down by Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
The apex court last week declared the NRO void, sparking the worst political crisis since the Pakistan People’s Party came to power in last year’s general election. President Asif Ali Zardari [ Images ] and several close aides are among the over 8,000 people who benefited from the graft amnesty.
“The one clarification that I will make is that I committed this mistake on the strong advice of the political leadership at that time, who was now blatantly disowning connections with it.”
“My interest was only national, with absolutely no personal bias or agenda,” Musharraf wrote on his page on the social networking website Facebook.
This is big tragedy in Pakistan that nobody owns their illegitimate children. They preferred it to throw it in garbage by showing complete hatred to this tiny and harmless living being that is result of their sins, curses and illegitimate desires. This is same happening in case of poor NRO as nobody is ready to own it but no doubt all tried to enjoy its creation.
Mian Nawaz Sharif, during his tenure as Chief Minister Punjab from 1988-90, deprived the provincial departments of Rs. 15.35 billion.
The Auditor General Report released in the year 1988 reported that Mian Nawaz Sharif, misusing his authority as Chief Minister Punjab, issued directives which resulted into direct malpractice of Rs. 35 billion.
The report said that the Chief Minister Secretariat had been turned out to be a hub of corrupt practices and Nawaz Sharif wasted the public money like an ’emperor’ that resulted into huge fiscal deficit of the province.
The Auditor General Report released in the year 1986 said that the then Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif had used Rs. 120 Crore for malpractices in only one year.
Nawaz Sharif allotted 3000 precious LDA plots among his favorites due to which the provincial assets suffered loss of billions of rupees.
Nawaz Sharif ordered the CBR to issue several CBRs due to which got Rs. 40 Crore.
Mian Nawaz Sharif was the lead character of the Cooperative and Financial Institutions Scam, which deprived the retired employees, orphans, widows, and poor of their total assets amounting to Rs. 17 billion.
Nawaz Sharif released Rs. 1.2 million from his discretionary grant in the year 1985-86 while Rs. 18950,000 were released in 1986-87, Rs. 18990,000 were used in 1987-88 while another Rs. 18870,000 were distributed among his cronies.
The first tenure of Mian Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister in the year 1990 saw another reign of loot and plunder. During this period Mian Nawaz Shairf obtained Rs. 3 billion loan from Banks through his influence against inadequate guarantees. According to the details Rs.1.5 billion loan was obtained against Ittefaq Foundries, Rs.302 million were obtained for Brothers Sugar Mills, Rs.92 million for Brothers Textile, Rs. 392 million for Brothers Steel Mills, Rs.102 million for Ramzan Sugar Mills and Khalid Siraj Textiles each, Rs.385 million for Ittefaq Sugar Mills, Rs.368 million for Ittefaq Textiles and Rs.239 million were loaned to Ittefaq Brothers. Due to the malpractice the national wealth was used for establishing personal empire while the country’s economy was facing huge disaster. This loan was equivalent to the total internal loan obtained by the government of Pakistan.
In a letter to the then president Muhammad Rafiq Tarer, the then Additional Director General FIA Rehman Malik also leveled serious corruption charges against Nawaz Sharif who was sitting Prime Minister.
The charges are based on investigation also include money laundering of billions of dollars; Wheat Import Scam; allotment of contract of Motorway to Daewoo Company; Grabbing of heavy loans despite being defaulter; Sharif family’s UK hidden business; Commission in privatization of MCB; etc.

Our duffer generals are unaware that this is not mistake but criminal offense on use of usurp power against state laws.If in this way all executives would start machines of such unlawful law making patterns then system of mafia get strengthens and that is what happening in our system for last many years. Each authority is trying to bully others by making laws in their range.Nobody dare to punish them and sometime they group together to support each other to suppress the weak class of society..
AOM
You are not answering me that why your lover ignored all these crimes in his 9 years periods when all things are under his control.
AN OPEN LETTER!
Mian Nawaz Sharif,
Raiwind Palace &
H-180 Model Town,
Lahore.
Dear Sharif Sahib,
I hope you are doing well? It seems you are, you look young everyday. I remember you as Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan very well. You were the youngest one if I am not wrong? And indeed a very active
one.
I will not waste your time, Mian Sahib as a student of history, I saw you coming to power as an alternate to Benazir Bhutto’s government as an enterprising leader who enjoyed support from the military. Earlier you came in prominence with the slogans like, “Jaag Punjabi Jaag” and became finance minister of Punjab taking oath from General Gillani under another dictator General Zia ul Haq who publicly branded you as his own ‘son’. In 1990 , I remember you winning 92 out of 105 parliamentary seats in Punjab alone defeating Pakistan Democratic Alliance who relied on it’s Sindh bastion. You were appointed as the youngest prime minister ever in December, 1990 and indeed as Ishaq Dar claims (much like Manmohan Singh’s Economic Policies in 1990’s) set the country on the path of economic liberalism – steps which should be acknowledged but then around 1991 you my dear prime minister, relaxed exchange controls and privatized 89 public corporations where atleast more than half of the 89 corporations by directly and indirectly owned by Itefaq Group – a company your father, owned.
A few months later you showed your loyalties to General Zia and “re-launched” Islamization policy and passed Shari’ah Bill passed in May, 1991. During this time, those who accuse you being a power-hungry autocrat, accuse you of proposing 12th amendment authorizing yourself to take control of a province.
Earlier in 1990’s Late former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto who signed the ground-breaking Charter of Democracy alleged in her book that you took money from Osama Bin Laden. Khaled Khawaja a former ISI spymaster who had spend time with you writes in his book a remarkable communication between you and Osama Bin Laden.
According to Khawaja, Nawaz replied, ‘I love jihad’. Unimpressed, Osama stood up and pointing to a pillar in the room said, “Yes, you may love jihad, but your love for jihad is this much,” indicating a very small part of the pillar. ‘Your love for your children is this much,” pointing to a larger portion. “And your love for your parents is this much,” he continued, pointing towards the largest portion. “I agree that you love jihad, but this love is the smallest in proportion to your other affections in life.” However, to Osama’s dismay the argument went over Nawaz Sharif’s head.
Khawaja revealed that Osama gave Nawaz just a minuscule of the Rs 500 million cash that he wanted, but more importantly, for the Pakistani, what he received in kind proved to a virtual windfall.
My former prime minister, these are serious allegations – something you should publicly come out and defend. Sir, there’s obviously a serious issue of atleast two bank transfers from ISI to your andJaved Hashmi’s account of Rs. 6 million and Rs.50 million somewhere around early nineties – details and documentary evidence of which has been with the petition lodged at Supreme Court by General Asad Durrani on April, 20, 1994.
Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif it is now alleged that you took part and give out consent to kill more than 15,000 members, voters, sympathizers of MQM during the infamous, “Operation Cleanup” with the establishment. I remember during those time, you gave out strong statements against MQM and showed MQM’s men on PTV who were obviously drugged to give out confessional statements against “MQM’s involvement with the Jinnahpur Maps” – something which after 17 years been exposed by your closest ally Brigadier Imtiaz. Brigadier Imtiaz, former IB chief who reported directly to you apart from actually giving out details of “Operational Midnight Jackel” where you, Mian Nawaz Sharif with the helped of establishment conspired to dislodged an elected democratic government – certainly an act against the State which constitutes high treason and merits Article 6. You first government finally fell prey to the vary people whom you conspired with Ghulam Ishaq Khan then president who dismissed your government on grounds of corruption and law & order but the Supreme Court decision in an unprecedented decision restored you which shows that : Supreme Court always had good relations with you. Your government didn’t lasted long and you had to announce for an early election which paved way for Late Benazir Bhutto to come to power.
In February, 1997 elections due to one of the lowest turn outs in history of Pakistan which was only 35.92% because of boycott of virtually all major parties and where PPP voters didn’t came out, you were elected Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second time through a crushing majority where you won 134 seats out of 204 and got powers to amend constitution and true to your character of “more and more power” and perhaps learning from history: you amended the constitution.
On April Fools Day, 1997 the two chambers passed the 13th Amendment over turning the 8th Amendment where 58 (2) which allowed the president to dissolve the NA was annulled; Article 101 obliged the president henceforth to consult the prime minister before nominating governors; Paragraph 112 (2b) which gave governors the power to dissolve provincial assembles was abolished ; Paragraph 243 (9) (2) was modified so the president lost his discretionary power to appoint military leaders and became the most powerful Prime Minister in the history of Pakistan.
They say that with power comes responsibility but you Mian Sahib, systematically used your authority to undermine the opposition in defiance of the separation of powers. The judiciary which you now champion was your first victim where you all of a sudden reduced the number of judges of Supreme Court from 17 to 12 and violated Article 190 of Constitution but you Mian Sahib, blackmailed the nation, judiciary and president by passing a motion with the view to making the president dismiss the chief justice, Sajjad Ali Shah. It was during this time that a mob attacked Supreme Court which your spokesman, claimed to be “the anger of people”.
During all this quarrel President and Chief Justice left offices and you again took the advantage and got Rafiq Tarar a friend of your father as President of Pakistan. All this time Itefaq Foundation grew to be a multi-billion company. You brother ran the province of Punjab and you ran Pakistan as your family business. While your brother was running the affairs of Punjab and his politices like those of Islamabad largely served the Punjabi’s interests and business interest in general. Turning his back on the calls for austerity which the IMF and stipulated as a condition for your latest loan, Finance Minister Sartaj Aziz in fact announced that from 28th March there would be a supply policy based on tax xoncessions to the employers.
My dear former prime ministers, your enemies also issued a list of loans which you defaulted during that time. Kindly confirm that either you and your businesses defaulted on following loans or not?
ITTEFAQ FOUNDRIES (PVT) LTD Rs.18 carors, 84 lakhs, 41,000

Prime Minister this is indeed serious allegations something which you should come out personally and not ask your advisers who are now seen as “DEVILS ADVOCATE” and nothing less.
And then as if you didn’t had enough of power, you somehow introduced 15th Amendment on the 9th of Octuber, 1998 and tried becoming “Ameer-ul-Momineen” in the name of Islam apart by taking name of imposing Shiria law and powers to dictate whats right and wrong. I also remember your treatment to the press and freedom of speech during those time where you limited Jang Newspaper to only one page apart from arresting lot of journalists.
Every politician, like any other celebrity, has his or her tryst with destiny. Mian Sahib, this is my first letter of series of letter. I understand you have physically, mentally and spiritually reformed a lot but you should now seriously come clear yourself in public and apologize for what you have done or at least clear out the misconceptions if it is a misconception at all.
I look forward for your reply at akchishti@hotmail.com.
Yours Truly,
Ali Kamran Chishti.
Karachi.
WITH THANKS
The current ruling junta and the rest of NRO dignitaries have now got together to brazenly defy the order and related instructions of the Supreme Court.
More than half of the allegations against President Zardari are based on speculation about the decisions that have yet not been taken. The remaining are based on logic that some decisions are taken which could not have been taken without corrupt motives without proving how corruption actually took place and without the evidence of who benefitted. Even if the corruption took place, all the Ministers concerned have been quick to own decisions themselves, so the buck stops there and does not go to Mr. Zardari. So dragging Mr. Zardari in corruption allegations is vicious to say the least. Now, Public Accounts Committee is headed by Leader of the Opposition Ch. Nisar Ali Khan and Supreme Court is headed by the Chief Justice known for his record of taking sue motto notices in public interest. If there are any allegations, rather than trumping the drum on media outlets, they should be brought to any of these relevant forums and proven there.
