Admiral Noman Bashir : New Naval Chief of Pakistan
By Sameer Shaharyar • Oct 6th, 2008 • Category: Misc • No Responses •President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Vice Admiral Noman Bashir HI(M) as the Chief of the Naval Staff and promoted him to the rank of admiral.
After the issuance of notification as the naval chief, his promotion to the rank of admiral will be effective from the date of taking over, a Navy press release stated here on Sunday.Admiral Noman Bashir will succeed Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, who will relinquish the command of the Pakistan Navy after completion of his tenure. The change of command ceremony will be held on October 7, 2008, at the PNS Zafar Ground, Naval Complex, E-8, Islamabad.
Admiral Noman Bashir HI(M) was commissioned in the operations branch of the Navy in June 1973. He has had the privilege to command two aviation squadrons, two ships (frigate and corvette) and the Naval Aviation. He has also had the coveted honour of commanding the Pakistan Fleet.
He has served at the NHQ as the assistant chief of the Naval Staff (Operations), assistant chief of the Naval Staff (Training), the director Naval Intelligence and the deputy chief of the Naval Staff (Projects). Before being appointed as the Chief of the Naval Staff, the admiral was serving as Commander Karachi.
