Adapt Ourselves..Can’t We?

What is it that stops me from taking to the streets? What is it that is stopping me from going insane? Can’t they even put taxes on the very air that I breath in. 12th May that was a black day, but what about the hundreds of young men brought to their houses in bloody sacks (boris). What about the impact on our lives and minds that constant fear of killings in the air has brought. You can’t go out that is what I heard; after the brutal cold blooded murder of namazee’s in the mosque in my mohalla (masjid-e-Akber) at Kashmir Road P.E.C.H.Society Karachi. This is 1993-94.

I still remember the cold night…after maghrib prayers the firing all over the streets after the incident..for almost an hour we all kept inside closed all doors and windows as if they were really going to stop bullets from coming in…News started coming in of the bodies lying in the masjid…a neighbor told us he had seen the brains of the imam on the fan above…there was news of another body on the small lane (galli) next to the mosque of a man who came to the mosque late and saw the attack, wanting to go away, he was killed while climbing the wall of the wudu-khana. The next day it was all over the news this incident. We shifted to Clifton to live with my Nani to stay a while.

I cant forget the dozens of bullets I found in our garden the next day.

City of lights, I am a child of. But most of my memories are filled with this…these bizarre bloody murders of innocent people…few weeks later an imam bargah nearby was attacked in the same brutal way…

Adaptability is the source of evolution. Will we adapt to this as well?

Hope Will Prevail…

  1. We have adapted to this constant violence, otherwise most of us would be in an asylum somewhere.

  2. Human beings have this capability of adapting themselves to the situation. Back few years, I can remember how much terrifying it would be to hear the news of a people killed in firing. The bullets turned to bombs and then suicide attacks. It feels like we shall get used to these too. We can either accept the situation and get used to it or keep crying in wilderness.

  3. i do not agree with you my friend talal, the reason of writing all that is not to make people lose hope rather to make them understand what is going on to make them ATLEAST START THINKING that this is not going to go on any longer, we need to start thinking. As we all are acting like we are sleeping. This is a wake up call, not a death sentence my friend.
