A Ghazal for Lotas

They’re green, they’re white, they’re yellow
They get that way underground
There can’t be much to do
So now they have blue ones too

We don’t care what thay look like we’ll vote them
Any way they can fit in our washplate
Every way we can conjure to woo them
We’re delighted and think they’re just great

Sometimes we ditch their skin
To see what it’s holding in
Sometimes we’d rather please
Have just the outside with grease

They have wallets but they do not have faces
I don’t know if their feelings get hurt
By just hanging around in flour and sugar places
Where that only can stare at the dirt

I guess their use this election is not scant
For other parts of the plant

Maybe wondering if they’ll be beggars
Or chaudharies or sheikhs or khans
