62 Point Constitutional Package

By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • May 23rd, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses •

The much awaited constitutional package right out of the brain of law minister Farooq H. Naek has completed and it’s consists of 62 points aimed at amending many clauses and articles in the constitution.

Any constitutional package which would serve the personal interests of government, or which would benefit the elite or which will render advantages to the single person will be ultimately of no use, and it would only make the matters more complex and hopeless.

The new constitutional package won’t be judge by it’s voluptuousness or by it’s fancy legalese, rather it would be gauge by the benefits it would accrue to the people of Pakistan. First and foremost, the constitutional package should aim at empowering the people, and that could only be done if the supremacy of parliament is ensured, and a free justice system is placed.

In order to have the supremacy of the parliament and the free judicial system, powers of the President should be cut down. Gory things like 58(2)B must be abolished. President should be a symbolic figure, and must not have any powers to dislodge or threat the elected members.

Last but not least, this proposed constitutional package could only be successful, if it gets the national approval from all stakeholders, excluding President of course.
