23rd March………68 Years on……!!!
By Syed Samiullah Shah • Mar 23rd, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • (1,347 views) • 3 CommentsRight from today on 23rd March 68 years ago, All India Muslim League in it’s Minto Park Lahore meeting passed “Lahore resolution”, which later on shaped as “Pakistan resolution” . Apparently it was the beginning of a journey without any obvious destiny as after the second world war & the demands of the subcontinent masses, the Britishers were in trouble & it was obvious the occupants will leave the land sooner or later & this is why with in seven years of the passed “Lahore resolution”, Pakistan was on the map of the world as the largest Muslim independent state.
Indeed Pakistan’s creation was terrific for many reasons but as a nation we have not done well & the partition & creation of Bangladesh is a glimpse of this. In many other areas this nation has done remarkably well as in the very beginning the GDP was exceptionally well.
Between 1979 to 1989, much much wealth came to Pakistan through many channels but unfortunately that was not utilized in proper way & most of them went in to the pockets of elite class & historians know pretty much about that. In the very same decade & later on struggle for power was on between different players of Pakistani politics, including civil & military bureaucracy which proved disastrous for Pakistan.
Being critic of MQM’s initial policies & realistic i ought to say that this party was pushed back by establishment in the early 90’s in the PPP government with retired general Naseerullah Khan Baber in charge, which was deplorable.
On Oct. 12, 1999 an elected government was once again being over thrown by the mighty general of Pakistan Army, which again was disastrous for the entire nation & that should not have happen.
From 1947 to 2001, this nation went through much much difficult phases as about four Army Generals took power in different situation. East Pakistan separated from the west, which is the present Pakistan. First ever elected prime minister was hanged. An unnecessary step was taken in the bilateral confrontation between USA & USSR & the consequences were terrible & even now we are suffering from that. Poor foreign policies were followed, including illegal interferences in it’s neighbours internal matters.
There are though some fields in which this nation has done splendidly well. The likes of nuclear technology & being the sole Muslim Nuclear state is a huge success, Industrial development is pretty good, education is becoming better & better though much still has to be done in this field, but the most outstanding indeed is the March 9, 2007, the day on which the Chief Justice of Pakistan challenged the mighty General & later on the Feb.18 elections in which the masses voted for the free & independent judiciary, parliament & media. So Al-HAMDULLILLAH, the prospects are good & promising. Long Live Pakistan, Long Live free Judiciary, Long Live free & sovereign Parliament.
